Sunday School Preview for Fall 2023

With Labor Day behind us and summer vacations complete, we are now ready to begin again our regular teaching/discipleship ministries—including Sunday school!

As a reminder, Sunday school is from 9-10am from September to June and encompasses ages 3 to adult. We currently have four levels of Sunday school: adult, teen, children, and preschool. All levels of Sunday school will resume this Sunday, September 10. Note that there is currently no nursery care provided during the Sunday school hour.

What are we learning in Sunday school? Below is a quick preview/refresher.

Adult Sunday School: Fundamentals of the Faith
In the adult class, we are resuming our Fundamentals of the Faith course in which we use the Bible to study thirteen foundational truths of Christianity, truths that include both what to believe and what to practice. If you missed any previous lessons in our series, you can find video and audio recordings at https://www.calvaryem.org/sermon-series/fundamentals-of-the-faith/. Our first lesson for the fall will be on the person and ministry of the Holy Spirit.

Teens’ Sunday School (grades 7-12) and Children’s Sunday School (grades K-6): The New City Catechism
Calvary teens and children will resume where they left off in The New City Catechism, a modern version of the great historical catechisms intent on teaching students 52 key questions and answers of Bible truth through singing, teaching, drilling, and other activities. The students are currently on Question 35: “Since we are redeemed by grace alone, through faith alone, where does this faith come from?”

Preschool Sunday School (ages 3-5): Hide ‘n’ Seek Kids
Our youngest learners are going to start a new curriculum this fall from The Praise Factory (https://praisefactory.org/new-hide-n-seek-kids-full-page). Similar to The New City Catechism, the Hide ‘N’ Seek Kids curriculum seeks to teach children sixteen Bible themes, spending multiple weeks on each theme. Children learn these themes as Big Questions and Answers set to music, and these Big Questions and Answers are reinforced via Bibles stories, Bible verses set to music, and various games/activities. The first big question the children will be tackling is: 1. How Do I Know What God Is Like?

We hope that you and your family will join us for Sunday school this year, starting this next Sunday!
